Amish Hamburger Steak Bake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup green beans, trimmed (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes (prepared)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prepare it for the casserole.

2. Prepare the Beef Mixture:
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and form the mixture into oval-shaped patties.

3. Brown the Patties:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides for about 3–4 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

4. Make the Sauce:
In the same skillet, add the cream of mushroom soup and beef broth. Stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring to a gentle simmer.

5. Layer the Ingredients:
Place the browned patties in a single layer in the greased baking dish. Pour the mushroom sauce over the patties. Add the green beans on top, followed by the prepared mashed potatoes, spreading them evenly across the dish.

6. Bake:
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

7. Serve:
Dish out this hearty Amish Hamburger Steak Bake while hot. Enjoy the comfort and flavor with every bite!
