Here’s a simple construction for a Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Casserole:

Ingredients

  • For the Casserole:
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8-10 biscuits)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped green onions or bell peppers
  • For the Gravy:
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Sausage:
    In a skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Make the Gravy:
  • In the same skillet, sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage. Stir to combine.
  • Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
  1. Prepare the Casserole:
  • In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, cut the biscuit dough into quarters and spread them evenly across the bottom.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the biscuit pieces.
  • Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the egg mixture and top with shredded cheese.
  1. Add the Gravy:
    Drizzle the sausage gravy over the entire casserole.
  2. Bake:
    Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the biscuits are golden brown.
  3. Serve:
    Let it cool slightly before serving. Optionally, garnish with chopped green onions.
