- 1 jar dried beef slices, rinsed thoroughly and chopped
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 tbsp flour
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
- 2 cups milk
- Sea salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste
- Toasted bread
Instructions for Making Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast:
- Begin by rinsing the dried beef slices thoroughly to remove excess salt, then pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Chop the beef into small, bite-sized pieces and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour and a pinch of cayenne pepper to the melted butter. Whisk until fully blended and cook for about 45 seconds.
- Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
- Once all the milk is added, stir in the chopped dried beef.
- Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
- Taste and season with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper as needed.
- Serve immediately over toasted bread.
